Phil Collins - Live at Perkins Palace 1982 Complete (Mr. Sifter reconstruction & remaster)

Phil Collins
December 19, 1982
Perkins Palace
Pasadena, CA

A Mr. Sifter pre-FM reconstruction/remaster.

This was compiled from several sources: The majority from a King Biscuit CD used for a 1993 broadcast, with another stray track coming from another KBFH CD in 1998. Three or four tracks were only ever pressed on vinyl, those are taken from original KBFH LP's. Two further tracks ("Thunder and Lightning" and "If Leaving Me Is Easy") were never broadcast, and had to be sourced from Wolfgang's Vault. I used Izotope Spectral Recovery to attempt to minimize a bit of the lossy mp3 source, but in my search there is no truly lossless source for those two tracks.

Some of the banter and band introduction bits were taken from Philadelphia a week earlier, I have not attempted to rectify any discrepancies there, this is just about getting all the music played on that night in one place, in the best possible sound.

Please enjoy, play loudly, and don't distribute in lossy formats.

Remastered by Mr. Sifter, December 2024

Remaster notes:

Speed corrected, the bootleg circulating ran about a half-step too fast. Bass and drums were overly dominant, often drowning out Bob and GE's guitars, reduced the drums around -3db and boosted the guitars slightly using RX11 Music Rebalance. Cut some of the low rumble below 50hz to reduce excessive bass without removing Kenny's presence. Vocals still nice and clear in the mix. Turn up loud and enjoy.

Remastered by Mr. Sifter, October 2024.

Remaster notes: a nice but very dry SBD, added some slight room reverb via Izotope Aurora & mastered using Waves Abbey Road Mastering, hopefully feels a bit closer to a proper live album. Nice, low-key show just before her big comeback started to kick into gear.

Remastered by Mr. Sifter, November 2024. An amazing recording but with some major volume/channel fluctuations, addressed these individually by mixing the other channel in, it's still noticeable when it switches to mostly mono for short passages, but it's much less distracting than it was previously. Leveled out and did some minor mastering work to bring it more in line with a commercial release. A great listen.
